Digital spirit levels and inclinometers for angle setting

A digital spirit level does what a vial alone cannot: it puts a number on the slope. Beam lengths here run 40, 60 and 120 cm, and the display reads out in degrees, percent or mm/m, so the fall on a drain run or the rake on a rafter can be set to a figure and repeated on the next component. Most instruments keep a vial as well, which is the sensible arrangement, because the bubble stays readable when the cell is flat.

Audible signals matter more than they sound: a tone at level and at right angles lets you work with your eyes on the workpiece instead of the screen, which counts when you are holding a beam overhead. Look for a machined measuring face, magnetic edges for steelwork, and a calibration routine you can run yourself, since a knocked instrument that still reads plausibly is worse than one that is obviously broken.
